Obituary of Eugene Gordon

IN LOVING MEMORY OF EUGENE GORDON Eugene was born on December 8, 1930, at Newark City Hospital, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Robert Gordon Sr. and Leola Maddux. Through his parents, Eugene developed a love for nature and the sea. Henceforth becoming an avid hunter and fisherman. Eugene and his father once purchased a fishing boat and dubbed it, “The Gordon I.” Eugene always proudly talked about their hunting dogs (beagles)his two favorites being “Cap and Judy”. He loved the taste of a good piece of venison, rabbit or squirrel and even though he enjoyed a nice portion of flounder, his true delight would be to gift him with a porgie! As a young boy, Eugene would always come up with new ideas to make money. He once created his own business as a shoe- shine boy to help his family at times. An exceptional student, Eugene attended the “Charleton Street School”, Newark, New Jersey and received his diploma on January 29,1946. He soon began an occupation as a Laborer Carpentry Worker for the company Earnst Smith, Newark, New Jersey until his entry into the United States Army in October 1951. Eugene’s service in the Korean War, earned the rank of Coroporal. Upon Separation and an Honorable discharge from military service, Eugene was awarded medals of honor. “National Defense Medal”, “Korean War Service with bronze stars”, and for United Nations Service (Korea). Eugene remained in Tuckerton, New Jersey until illness and age, brought him to Long Island, New York, to live out the rest of his days surrounded by his daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Eugene had become a life-time member with VFW Post 4927- 34 Lamport Avenue, Port Jefferson Station, New York. He not only enjoyed the comradeship of his fellow veterans, but always expressed the feeling of respect, that his opinions mattered. Eugene spent the rest of his days making memories with family and friends. On the night of April 18, 2024, Eugene Gordon peacefully passed away in his home, at the vintage age of 93 years old. Eugene is survived by his daughter Delores Gordon (Who he affectionately called D. Sometimes Demon if it was a political debate). Yet, always told her lovingly, “I am so glad you are my girl!” Son In Law Roland L. Durham (His best buddy and fellow jokester). 13 grandchildren; Paul, Jeffrey, Lynziel, Jarrad, Skai, Addonnis, Jazzmin, Mykell, Ty’kwan, Ty’nazha, Robert, Roshawn and their spouses; 2 great grandchildren: Jayshawn James Smith Jr.(Oompah) and Julius Kash’mere King Berry-Stephens(fatman potatoe skins). A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. A very special mention; Nephew Elike Thomas Reeves Gordon (who was raised by Eugene and Grandad). Special friends; Frankie Greene, Kim Terry, Lorraine Phillips, Iranette Garrison. Eugene is preceded in death by his parents; Siblings John Gordon, Benjamin Gordon, Robert Gordon Jr. Niece; Dawn E. Levi, Nephew in law; Stanley L. Levi, Great Nieces; Sherri Levi, Stacie L. Levi, Candace E. Levi. ~I did not know what you meant to me It took a lot of years for me to see We went through so much together Laughter, pain, you made me feel better You held us both up and took a stand Before I knew it you held my hand You’ve taught me so much, but never goodbyes Cause now I’m left with tears in my eyes But the sun came the very next day, and as I wiped all of my tears away My heart celebrated you with joy and glee, AT LEAST I GOT YOU TO 93!
